Programmer Laszlo Hanyecz created history on May 22, 2010, when he paid 10,000 Bitcoin for two Papa John’s pizzas. The price was roughly $41 at the time.
With the intention of showcasing Bitcoin’s viability for everyday transactions, Hanyecz, an early adopter of BTC, actively sought to demonstrate its potential. He offered 10,000 BTC on a forum for someone to buy him pizzas, which quickly became a symbol of the cryptocurrency industry. With the skyrocketing price of BTC over time, those two pizzas now hold enormous value, reaching up to $270 million if valued at $27,000 per BTC.

Lightning Network pizza ordering and payment for Laszlo
Three years ago, the programmer behind Bitcoin Pizza Day planned to retaliate by utilizing the Lightning Network (LN) to purchase additional pizzas in BTC. Hanyecz then made a payment of 649,000 satoshi, or 0.00649 bitcoin.
Despite suffering his first significant “loss” by spending 10,000 BTC on the first two pizzas, Laszlo still intended to showcase the Lightning Network, which he believed to be the only way to scale the Bitcoin blockchain.
In comparison to the $270 million value of the first pizzas, 0.00649 BTC is currently worth only $157.
