This exclusive program grants holders the right to permanent residency in the United States, with the option to pursue citizenship. Each card is priced at $5 million, meaning the program generated a staggering $5 billion in revenue in just one day.
"And by the way, yesterday I sold 1,000," Lutnick stated during the podcast.
The Gold Card program has previously been discussed as a potential strategy to address the U.S. national debt. Lutnick suggested that selling 200,000 Gold Cards could generate $1 trillion, making a significant contribution toward reducing the country’s financial burden. Expanding on this idea, former President Donald Trump speculated that selling 1 million of these cards could raise $5 trillion, while 10 million could generate $50 trillion—an amount large enough to entirely eliminate the national debt.
Lutnick explained that the concept for the Gold Card program originated from a discussion between John Paulson and Donald Trump, where they explored the idea of selling U.S. visas instead of granting them for free. Lutnick was later brought into the conversation to help develop and implement the initiative. He also revealed that the software infrastructure necessary for the program is currently being developed by a team led by Elon Musk and is expected to be ready within two weeks.
Clarifying the terms and implications of the Gold Card, Lutnick stated that it serves as a replacement for the traditional Green Card, allowing holders to legally reside in the U.S. indefinitely. While recipients would have the option to apply for citizenship, he noted that most are unlikely to do so, as U.S. citizenship would subject them to global taxation. Instead, the primary appeal of the program is the right to live in the United States without the standard immigration hurdles—at a premium cost of $5 million per card.
