Explore Casio’s groundbreaking move into the NFT space with its blockchain-based G-SHOCK watch, driven by user engagement and innovation.
Casio, a leading manufacturer of Japanese electronics, is releasing its blockchain-based virtual G-SHOCK watch in NFT format.
The design of the NFTs and the issuance of access cards to the NFT-based community are developed by user engagement between the brand and the community.
Launch of the G-SHOCK NFT virtual watch by Casio on Polygon
Casio, a leading manufacturer of electronic devices in Japan, has partnered with Polygon Labs to introduce the G-SHOCK virtual watch in Non-Fungible Token (or NFT) format.
The VIRTUAL G-SHOCK community has been introduced on Discord as of today, giving users access to Casio’s new NFT path. It costs nothing at all to join the Discord community.
Owners of the G-SHOCK CREATOR PASS (GSCP) NFT series will be able to take part in the initiative starting on September 23 by designing and voting on the appearance of their digital Casio watch.
Users will be able to request one of the 15,000 NFTs that will work as an access pass in reality.
Customers of Casio who have already signed up for a CASIO ID on the business’ website can take part in the pre-distribution phase from September 23 to September 26. A public distribution phase will thereafter take place from September 26 through September 29.
Moreover additional initiatives are already scheduled for October and December, according to Casio’s roadmap.
Casio and Polygon have decided to introduce their NFTs
Users will be able to vote on and submit design ideas for the G-SHOCK Creator Pass thanks to the new Casio and Polygon cooperation. The NFT pass will be modified to include the winning design.
Casio claimed it made its decision to use Polygon because it offers extremely quick transactions that make minting and managing its NFTs simple, convenient, and emission-free.
Takahashi Oh, Senior General Manager for Timepieces at Casio, said:
“At its core, our virtual G-SHOCK was designed to be open, inventive, and inclusive, which requires a seamless and straightforward user experience. For this reason, Polygon was the most obvious and sensible solution for us, according to Takahashi Oh, senior general manager of timepieces at Casio. The development of the G-SHOCK brand, which celebrated its 40th anniversary this year, is the company’s and users’ joint ambition.
Furthermore residents in the US, UK, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Japan, India, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, and Vietnam will currently have access to Casio’s NFT collection.
Global brands choose the Ethereum scaling solution
The scaling solution for Ethereum, Polygon, appears to be capturing more and more major brands, serving as the foundational blockchain for numerous NFT collections.
In reality, several companies, like Coca-Cola, Lufthansa, McDonald’s, and many others, have selected Polygon in addition to Casio today.
In fact, Coca-Cola, the world’s largest beverage company, selected Polygon for its second NFT collection in honor of International Friendship Day in August 2022.
On the other side, McDonald’s Singapore employed Ethereum’s scaling solution in August 2023 to distribute Grimace NFTs, which have a fixed PFP profile image after they are minted.
Even the airline Lufthansa Group has disclosed its intention to introduce a Web3 rewards program built on Polygon’s blockchain in order to reward customers.
