SkyBus introduces contactless payments for added convenience on the Hobart route, marking a leap in passenger comfort and innovation.
The award-winning airport bus service in Australia, SkyBus, has implemented contactless payments through Littlepay, the transit payments processor. Australian customers now have the option to tap for rides on the SkyBus Hobart Airport-City route, eliminating the need to buy tickets in advance. The new Littlepay ticketing solution is first available on this route.
The change, according to co-CEO Michael Sewards of SkyBus, is intended to greatly increase passenger comfort. He said, “This is just one more example of how we’re constantly innovating in how we can improve the ease and convenience of our services for passengers.” It complements the various convenient methods customers may buy tickets for SkyBus, such as our website, the SkyBus app, and our e-kiosks at departure locations.
Together with Masabi, Commonwealth Bank, Mastercard Gateway, and Fujitsu, this deployment was accomplished. SkyBus is a member of the Kinetic family, which also includes Go Ahead, one of the UK’s largest Littlepay clients.
The PCI-compliant, cloud-based Littlepay platform offers a full-service open payments solution for transit, interacts with payment schemes, and takes incoming card taps. Operators may quickly and easily “switch on” cEMV acceptance with Littlepay’s modular technology, which interacts smoothly with third-party transit back office solutions like Masabi’s Justride, without the hassle of a custom project.

Resolving issues at the airport
This is only Littlepay’s second deployment in Australia, despite the Melbourne-based PSP’s global introduction of contactless open-loop payments with active installations in the UK, Europe, North America, and Latin America.
Prior to its planned project in Canberra, Littlepay has demonstrated its capacity to satisfy the needs of the Australian market with its recent launch in Regional NSW and the current Skybus deployment, which represents a turning point in its Asia Pacific worldwide growth.
